Why Choose a Wedding DJ?
Keeps the Music Going
The great thing about hiring a wedding DJ is that your music will never stop, and every moment can be perfectly coordinated. Unlike wedding bands, DJs can take breaks without letting the music stop. A great DJ will still be attentive and proactively manage your wedding playlist while acting as a professional MC, so you don’t have to worry that they’re simply letting a playlist roll.
Having a DJ at your wedding allows you to have an endless variety of music for every moment. If you want something calm and romantic for your walk down the aisle, but want to switch it up with pop and electronic on the dance floor, your DJ can make it happen. The latest trending songs are right at their fingertips, as are old favorites that are sure to please guests of all ages. If you plan to switch between music genres during your wedding, hiring a DJ can make the process much easier than trying to coordinate your playlist and a live band. That being said, a DJ can easily work with a live band or musician so you don’t have to worry about anything!
One of the most exciting parts of having a DJ at your wedding is letting guests request songs they know and love. While you may be hesitant to allow too many guest requests in between your own playlist picks, your guests will have a great time being involved, and you might just find a new favorite song out of your guests’ requests! While live bands can only play song requests that fit within their genre and skill set, a DJ can access nearly any song you can think of.
Ideal for Dancing
If dancing is going to be one of the highlights of your wedding reception, a DJ is a must. You’ll likely want someone who can keep the energy high while reading the room to sense when to play music of a certain genre or speed. A wedding band is less ideal for dance-heavy receptions, unless you prefer to dance to the same style of music the entire time. With a DJ, you can still dance to classic styles like jazz, but you’ll also have the option to switch to line dancing or pop hits without delay.
Less of a Live Experience
One downside to hiring a wedding DJ is that you won’t get the same experience as you would when listening to a live band. A wedding band or musician can create special moments unlike any pre-recorded music ever could, but it all comes down to the type of music you love most. If you prefer vocals, classical music, or jazz, a wedding band may be a better choice for you. On the flip side, the right DJ is still entertaining and engaging, and can play any type of music you want.
Not the Best Fit for Small, Intimate Weddings
If your wedding will not include time for dancing or much mingling, you may prefer to hire a wedding band or musician instead of a DJ. A wedding band can still create the perfect atmosphere for dancing that is slow, traditional, or era-specific (such as the 1920s or 1950s).
